Ian Washburn ^{[1] [2] [3]} (born: July 27, 1990 (1990-07-27) [age 31]), better known online as iDubbbzTV (or simply iDubbbz), is an American YouTuber who is known for his Content Cop, Bad Unboxing, and Kickstarter Crap videos, as well as those featuring fellow YouTubers TVFilthyFrank, Maxmoefoe, HowToBasic, and anything4views.

History

Ian created his first channel on March 26, 2010 and uploaded two videos on it. However, he created another channel on August 12, 2012 which is now his main. His first video on there was uploaded on August 30, 2012, was of him playing the Holiday levels of the game Overgrowth. Like many other YouTubers, he started out gaming. IDubbbz continued to upload gaming videos on his channel until March 18, 2013, when he released his first "Gaming News Crap" video, which was the origin of his Kickstarter Crap series. Although iDubbbz kept making gaming videos, his more popular series, Kickstarter Crap, and Bad Unboxing took a higher priority over these videos.

He has collaborated with multiple large content creators including Jacksfilms, H3h3Productions, Boyinaband, PewDiePie, Vsauce, Ricky Berwick, Philip DeFranco, and Gus Johnson.

Since 2019, Ian has been creating documentaries on popular internet topics. So far, two have been produced, titled Full Force and Ice Cream Man, focusing on Airsoftfatty and Daxflame respectively. In late 2020, Ian began streaming on Twitch and started the channel idubbbzStream, where videos of his stream highlights will be posted.

Content Cop

Arguably, iDubbbz's most successful series, Content Cop is aimed toward creators of various topics in which their content is highly questionable or poorly executed. The series had brought in over 250 million views combined for him.

Content Cop episodes begin with a sketch of iDubbbz wearing a cop costume as he pursues a suspect while the song Otis McMusic by Otis McDonald plays, eventually breaking down into a scuffle between the two. Then, the video cuts to iDubbbz sitting down in his studio before he begins talking about the channel or channels in question, with no mention being made of the opening fight - even if the sketch ends with the Content Cop apparently being killed or, in one case, the suspect stealing his uniform and running away.

While there are a lot of requests in the comments section for Content Cop videos for him to feature certain YouTubers, iDubbbz generally ignores these requests.

Content Cop diss track

On October 3, 2017, iDubbbzTV made a diss track titled "Asian Jake Paul" about the YouTuber RiceGum.^[4] In the diss track, he featured Boyinaband, he was also helped by Anisaj, H3h3Productions, Jacksfilms, Internet Comment Etiquette with Erik, Ali the Cabbage, PewDiePie, Sive, and HowToBasic.

Controversy

Tana Mongeau drama

Controversial Tweet on December 10, 2016.

On December 10, 2016, YouTuber Tana Mongeau tweeted on Twitter at iDubbbz, saying he should kill himself because he uses "the N-word" and the word "retard" frequently. Tana later deleted the tweet because one of her fans had recently committed suicide then.

On January 21, 2017, iDubbbz, along with his girlfriend Anisa, went to Tana Mongeau's fan meetup. Anisa was also recording on a camera, which was later used for the Content Cop episode on Tana Mongeau. iDubbbz decided to take a photo with Tana, but instead of saying "Say cheese!" he said, "Say n*gger!"; after that, iDubbbz was kicked out.

Tana made a video about the situation, titled "The N Word". She says nothing about iDubbbz in the video, just explains what happened at the meet and greet and her thoughts on how the word should be used. She described the incident with a few exaggerations, which were later pointed out in the Content Cop. After this controversy, people pointed out how Tana herself has also been recorded calling people by the N-word.

On February 6, 2017, iDubbbz released a Content Cop video on her, in which he defends his use of the word "n*gger" and accuses Mongeau of hypocrisy by showing past clips of her uttering the same word. He stated that his use of the word is not meant to offend others as it is done in a comedic context, whilst he deemed Mongeau's use of the word to be racist. In the video, Ian also shows footage from the incident at Mongeau's show and criticizes her response to it. He also discusses the use of derogatory terms in a broader context, and the weight which society places on specific words in terms of their offensiveness.

iDubbbz gained over 200,000 subscribers in three days at the height of the controversy. However, the Content Cop didn't have a major effect on Mongeau's channel overall as she is still a popular YouTuber.

Anisa Jomha's OnlyFans

In March 2020, Ian's girlfriend Anisa Jomha opened an account on the site OnlyFans, a paid service to view uncensored images and 18+ content posted from its creators and have it monetized. This resulted in significant attacks on Ian's minute response and silence over his girlfriend opening this account with many calling Ian a "simp" or in some cases a "Content Cuck" due to Ian's silence on this matter. Anisa was already not well liked by iDubbbz's fans due to her controversial actions in the past. Many also condemned Ian for being a hypocrite due to Ian criticizing "booby" streamers and female streamers/content creators who used their body for likes/views on YouTube and Twitch yet Ian not applying the double standard to his girlfriend's behavior online.

Ian's response

On March 28, 2020, Ian posted a response video to the drama with him and his girlfriend's OnlyFans.^[5] He starts out saying that there are a group of people that make memes out of the drama for fun and laughs and then there are a group of people that take the drama to another level, insulting him and harassing him due to his girlfriend's decision of opening an OnlyFans account. Ian then talks about how his fans suddenly turn against him because of the drama and tells them that he is not their dad and if they don't look up to him anymore, he thinks that's fine. Ian then goes on to show some examples of fans that turn against him.

After, Ian then goes on to address people calling him a hypocrite and tells them that his opinions have been consistent throughout his YouTube career, even showing clips of him talking about sex work. Ian then goes on to say that he thinks his response video is the "most intelligent thing [he's] ever done" because of him showing "this side of him." And to conclude, Ian addresses a person that criticize him about the OnlyFans drama through a video.

YouTubers respond

Soon after Ian's response video came out, YouTubers such as PewDiePie, penguinz0, DramaAlert and SomeOrdinaryGamers respond to the OnlyFans drama and the response video Ian made. Some of these YouTubers call Ian's arguments weak and that his arguments are usually really well thought out and that many people can get behind it. In Penguinz0's response, he says that he doesn't get why the drama is a thing and thinks that his audience is overreacting to the OnlyFans drama. In the comments of Penguinz's video, many people say that his argument to the drama was better than Ian's argument. This is the case for other YouTubers who say the drama was unnecessary.

LeafyIsHere's response

On March 31, 2020, LeafyIsHere, a popular commentary YouTuber who left YouTube in 2017, posted a 30-second video responding to the drama by calling him a "cuck." The video quickly amassed views and Leafy became trending worldwide on Twitter shortly after the video's release. People then speculated that Leafy has returned to YouTube and will continue to make videos. On social media, people made jokes about Leafy using a trial version of Sony Vegas when he is a multimillionaire due to his former YouTube career. In an interview conducted by Keemstar (DramaAlert), Leafy is surprised by hearing him trending on Twitter. Keemstar then asks Leafy if he will return to YouTube, but he responds with a no, saying that YouTube is a bad website and that all his videos have copyright strikes or is demonetized and if he does make videos, then they are for fun rather than for ad revenue. Keem then tells Leafy that most YouTubers in 2020 don't make videos for just the ad revenue and that they have merchandise and other sorts of stuff that help get YouTubers paid another way other than YouTube. Leafy then says that he won't post on YouTube and jokingly says that he will go big on MySpace instead.

Termination

On November 23, 2017, a hacker known as "Lizard Squad" hacked onto YouTube and terminated the iDubbbz channel, as well as multiple other big channels including DramaAlert, Papa Jake, Styxhexenhammer666, Team Coco (Conan O'Brien), and Repzion. People thought this was the end of YouTube until YouTube itself got all forcefully terminated channels back up in less than 24 hours.
